The Dose Club

About The Dose Club

The Dose Club is a non-profit guide to paying less for health in the UK. It covers NHS charges, hospital costs, dental, private care, weight loss medicines and everyday pharmacy prices, and it names the source and check date for every figure. The site sells nothing, and every price table is sorted by price.

What the site is for

Health costs in the UK are spread across a lot of small print. A prescription in England is £9.90 an item, but a certificate cuts the bill for anyone on more than one regular medicine. A dental check-up has one price on the NHS and another at the practice next door. A weight loss medicine can cost £88 at one registered pharmacy and £229 at another for the same dose on the same day.

The Dose Club puts those figures in one place with the source beside them. Each page answers one question: what is the cheapest legal way to get this in the UK?

Who the site is for

Adults in the UK who pay for some of their health costs out of their own pocket. That includes people on regular prescriptions, people paying for weight loss medicine privately, anyone weighing up private treatment against an NHS wait, and families working out what they are entitled to for free.

What the site never does

The Dose Club does not sell, prescribe or dispense medicines. It does not take bookings, run a pharmacy, give medical advice or tell you to start, stop or change a dose. Those questions belong with your prescriber or pharmacist. Access to any service depends on the provider's rules and your circumstances, so a listing describes a service and does not promise you qualify for it.

Where the figures come from

NHS charges come from nhs.uk, the NHS Business Services Authority, gov.uk and the equivalent official pages for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Clinical facts come from NICE, the MHRA or the medicine's summary of product characteristics, never from a company selling the product.

Weight loss medicine prices come from the GLP Index, a UK price index of registered online pharmacies. Each price includes delivery and the prescriber consultation, names the pharmacy and shows its GPhC number. Private prices for clinics, tests and dental work cite the provider's own published price list.

Read how we check prices and the editorial policy for the detail.

Questions people ask

What does non-profit mean on this site?

The project exists to explain health costs, not to sell care. It does not provide treatment or take bookings. Some pharmacy links carry referral tracking and a referral fee may be paid on an order, but no pharmacy can pay to appear in a table or to move up one. The running costs are met by the people behind Dose Club.

Who writes the pages?

The Dose Club editorial team writes and checks every page against the official source on the date shown. Pages carry no clinical review and give no medical advice.

Why are pharmacy prices shown with a GPhC number?

Every pharmacy that supplies medicines in Great Britain has to be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. The seven-digit number lets you look the pharmacy up on the register before you order.

Do you list providers outside the UK?

No. Prices and schemes on this site are UK only. Nothing here applies to prices or sellers in the United States or anywhere else.

How do I report a wrong figure?

Use the contact page and tell us the page address, the figure you think is wrong and where the correct one is published. Corrections go up with the new check date.
