Many pharmacies apply the new-customer price only to the 0.25 mg starter pen. You then pay the ongoing price at every later dose. The first order and ongoing price guide sets out the month-by-month cost through the dose steps.
What is in the price
Each figure is the total for one pen with the prescriber consultation and standard delivery. The pen pack contains four needles. Extras to check before ordering: express or timed delivery, a sharps bin, a repeat consultation fee at dose changes, and whether blood tests are required and charged. The guide to what the price includes has the full list.
Checking the pharmacy is registered
Pharmacies in England, Scotland and Wales have to be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Find the GPhC number on the pharmacy website and search the GPhC registers by name or number. The GPhC's own checking guide lists the warning signs the MHRA sees on illegal sites: prescription only medicines with prices on the home page, no prescription required, no street address and payment in cryptocurrency. Each pharmacy in the price table carries its GPhC number. The guide to fake weight loss injections goes further.
Who can be prescribed Wegovy
Wegovy is a prescription only medicine. The SmPC on emc licenses it for adults with an initial BMI of 30 or more, or 27 to under 30 with at least one weight-related comorbidity. A prescriber has to confirm this before a pharmacy supplies the pen. GOV.UK states a consultation with a healthcare professional has to take place before any private prescription.
The SmPC schedule starts at 0.25 mg once weekly for four weeks, then 0.5 mg, 1 mg and 1.7 mg for four weeks each, reaching 2.4 mg at week 17. The MHRA approved a 7.2 mg weekly dose on 6 January 2026 for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, available after at least four weeks on 2.4 mg if the prescriber judges it needed. The pace of any dose change is for your prescriber, and this site gives no advice on it.
Wegovy on the NHS
NICE guidance TA875 recommends semaglutide for weight management only within a specialist weight management service providing multidisciplinary care, for adults with at least one weight-related comorbidity, and for a maximum of two years. The rationale names a BMI of at least 35, or 30 to 34.9 with referral criteria met, with thresholds reduced by 2.5 for people from South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean backgrounds. There is no GP rollout for Wegovy of the kind that exists for Mounjaro.
An NHS prescription costs £9.90 per item in England and nothing in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. The NHS weight loss injections guide explains how referral to a specialist service works.
Subscription plans and insurance
The Dose Club does not advise 3, 6 or 12 month tie-in plans for Wegovy, because the prices are higher and most of the benefit sits with the pharmacy. See subscription against pay monthly. Private health insurance is unlikely to cover Wegovy.
Where the figures come from
All prices are from the GLP Index export of 21 October 2026, covering 72 UK registered pharmacies. The licence, schedule and comorbidity wording are from the Wegovy SmPC on emc. The 7.2 mg approval is from the MHRA press release of 16 January 2026 on GOV.UK. NHS criteria are from NICE TA875. The prescription charge is from the NHS website.
