The saving from moving pharmacy
The same pen costs different amounts at different pharmacies. GLP Index tracked 80 UK registered pharmacies for Mounjaro on 21 October 2026. At 7.5 mg, a mid-point dose, the cheapest ongoing price was £175.00 at Curate (GPhC 9012920) with code NEWMONJ, and the median ongoing price was £236.74. A patient at a median-priced pharmacy who moves to the cheapest one saves £61.74 a pen. Over 12 pens the saving is £740.82.
The gap holds at other doses. At 10 mg the cheapest ongoing price was £203.00 at G-1 Nutrition (GPhC 9010938), against a median of £259.00, a saving of £56.00 a month or £672.00 a year. At 15 mg the figures were £234.00 against £299.99, so £65.99 a month or £791.88 a year.
For the Wegovy injection the index covered 72 pharmacies. At 1.7 mg the cheapest ongoing price was £119.00 at Molecule (GPhC 9011284), and the median was £161.00, a saving of £42.00 a month or £504.00 a year. At 2.4 mg it was £139.00 against £202.95, a saving of £63.95 a month or £767.40 a year.
Those are savings against the median. A patient at one of the highest-priced pharmacies saves more. The highest Mounjaro 7.5 mg first order recorded was £294.00, against the cheapest ongoing price of £175.00.
Who can switch
Anyone on a pay-monthly arrangement can move at any time. You are a customer, not a patient enrolled in a programme, and the new pharmacy treats you as a new patient with a treatment history. The GOV.UK guidance on GLP-1 medicines says a consultation with a healthcare professional has to happen before any prescription is issued, so expect a fresh assessment.
If you signed a 3, 6 or 12 month plan, check the cancellation terms before you move. The subscription against pay monthly guide explains the 14-day cooling off period under the Consumer Contracts Regulations and what counts after it.
The rules are the same in England, Scotland and Wales, where the pharmacy has to be on the GPhC register. In Northern Ireland the pharmacy is registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland.
Dose when you switch
The position on this site is simple. You may stay on the same dose, or move up to the next dose if you are due a step. Which of those happens is a decision between you and the new prescriber. This site does not tell anyone to change a dose.
Two caveats come from the product licences. The Mounjaro SmPC says a missed dose should be taken within 4 days, and if more than 4 days have passed the dose is skipped and the next one taken on the usual day. The Wegovy SmPC gives a 5-day window and adds that if more doses are missed, reducing the starting dose for re-initiation should be considered. A prescriber who learns you have had a gap of two or more weeks may restart you at a lower dose. Give the new prescriber the exact dates of your last three injections so they can apply the licence correctly.
The SmPC also sets the minimum time at each step: four weeks for both Mounjaro and Wegovy before any increase. A new prescriber will not move you up early.
Steps to switch without a gap
- Pick the new pharmacy from the price table for your medicine and dose, using the ongoing price, not the first order price. Check its GPhC number on the GPhC register before you create an account.
- Note the date of your last injection, your current dose and how many doses remain in the pen. Keep the box with the batch number.
- Start the new assessment at least seven days before you need the next pen. The questionnaire asks for height, weight, medical history, current medicines and your GLP-1 treatment history. Answer in full. Leaving out a dose gap or a side effect can lead to a prescription the SmPC would not support.
- Tell the new prescriber the dose you are on and whether you want to continue it or step up. Accept the prescriber's decision.
- Upload any photo the pharmacy asks for, such as the current pen or a recent weight reading. Some pharmacies ask for a video call.
- Once the order is approved, wait for the dispatch email before you cancel any repeat with the old pharmacy. Delivery is usually two to five working days.
- Take your next weekly dose on the usual day from the new pen. If delivery slips, the Mounjaro 4-day and Wegovy 5-day windows in the SmPC apply, and your prescriber or pharmacist can advise.
Mistakes that cost money
Comparing first order prices and then paying the ongoing price for 11 months is the common one. At Mounjaro 7.5 mg the cheapest discount price for a first order on 21 October 2026 was £168.00 at New Health (GPhC 9011199) with code MONJ12, while the cheapest ongoing price was £175.00 at Curate (GPhC 9012920) with code NEWMONJ. Across 80 pharmacies the median first order was £208.97 and the median ongoing was £236.74.
Switching every month to chase the first order discount means a new assessment every time and a prescriber who sees no history. Pharmacies also check whether you have ordered elsewhere recently.
Leaving the old pen unused because the new one arrived early wastes a four-week supply. Finish the current pen on schedule and start the new one at the next due date.
Signing a fixed-term plan at the new pharmacy to shave a few pounds off each pen removes the freedom to move again. The tie-in plan guide sets out why.
Where the figures come from
All prices are from the GLP Index export of 21 October 2026. Missed dose rules and minimum step times are from the Mounjaro and Wegovy Summaries of Product Characteristics on emc. The requirement for a consultation before any prescription is from the GOV.UK guidance on GLP-1 medicines. Registration checks are from the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Questions people ask
Can I switch pharmacy halfway through Mounjaro treatment?
Yes. Nothing ties you to the pharmacy you started with unless you signed a fixed-term plan. The new pharmacy runs its own prescriber assessment, asks for your treatment history and current dose, and then supplies the next pen. On 21 October 2026 the saving at 7.5 mg between the median and cheapest ongoing price was £61.74 a month.
Do I have to go back to the starting dose when I switch?
Not if you have kept up your weekly doses. The new prescriber can continue your current dose or, if you are due a step, move you to the next one. The Mounjaro SmPC says a dose missed by more than 4 days is skipped, and the Wegovy SmPC says that where more doses are missed a lower restart dose should be considered. Tell the new prescriber about any gap.
Will the new pharmacy charge the first order price?
Usually yes, if you are a new customer there. On 21 October 2026 the cheapest Mounjaro 7.5 mg discount price for a first order was £168.00 at New Health (GPhC 9011199) with code MONJ12, against a cheapest ongoing price of £175.00. At 10 mg the two figures were £188.00 and £203.00. The first order price applies once. Compare pharmacies on the ongoing price, since that is what you pay from the second pen.
How do I avoid running out when I change pharmacy?
Order from the new pharmacy at least a week before your last dose in the current pen. Assessment, prescriber approval and delivery can take two to five working days. A Mounjaro dose can still be taken up to 4 days late and a Wegovy dose up to 5 days late under the SmPC, but a planned overlap avoids relying on that.
Does switching pharmacy affect my NHS record?
Private pharmacies do not write to your GP record unless you consent to them contacting your GP. Most ask whether they may inform your GP of the prescription. Keep your own note of the dates and doses so you can give the next prescriber a full history.
