What a weight loss injection price includes: consultation, delivery, needles

The cheapest Mounjaro 2.5 mg discount price for a first order on 21 October 2026 was £88.00 at Medicspot (GPhC 9012559). Like every price on this site, the figure covers one four-week supply, the prescriber consultation and standard delivery. The Wegovy pack includes four needles. The Mounjaro leaflet lists the pen alone, so ask about needles. Sharps bins, express delivery, clinician calls and blood tests are the items most often charged on top.

The figure the index records

GLP Index records one number per pharmacy per dose: the total a patient pays for a four-week supply, with the prescriber consultation and standard delivery inside the figure. That is the price in every table on this site. On 21 October 2026 the total for a Mounjaro 2.5 mg pen ran from £88.00 on the cheapest first order to £229.00 on the highest, and the ongoing price from £105.00 to a median of £153.21. Any pharmacy that lists a lower pen price and adds a consultation or delivery charge at checkout ends up inside that same range once the extras are added.

This page sets out what sits inside the figure, what commonly sits outside it, and the questions to ask before paying.

Inside the price

The consultation is the assessment a prescriber carries out before issuing a private prescription. GOV.UK states this has to happen before any GLP-1 prescription. Most pharmacies run it as an online questionnaire reviewed by a pharmacist independent prescriber or a doctor, sometimes with a photo or video check. The first consultation is in the first order price. Repeat consultations at each reorder are in the ongoing price at every pharmacy in the index.

Standard delivery is included. For injections most pharmacies send a tracked, temperature-controlled parcel. Tablets travel by ordinary tracked post.

The medicine itself is one pen with four weekly doses for Mounjaro or Wegovy, or 28 tablets for the Wegovy pill or Foundayo. The Wegovy pack contains four needles. The Mounjaro leaflet lists the pen only, and pharmacies differ on whether they add needles free, charge for them or leave you to buy them.

Outside the price

Express or timed delivery is the most common add-on. Next-day or Saturday delivery is charged on top at many pharmacies, and the fee repeats on every order.

Pen needles for Mounjaro are the first item to ask about, since the pack does not list them. A sharps bin for used needles is not in either pen pack. Some pharmacies send one free with the first order, some charge for it on every order, and some do not offer one and direct you to your local council or GP practice. Tablets do not need one.

Clinician calls beyond the standard review are charged by some pharmacies, for example a 15-minute telephone appointment to discuss side effects. Others include unlimited messaging with the pharmacy team.

Blood tests are required by some pharmacies before the first prescription or at a dose step. The test may be charged, or the pharmacy may accept a recent result from your GP.

A dose change fee applies at a few pharmacies when the prescriber moves you to a new strength, on the basis that a new assessment is needed. Most do not charge this.

Membership or programme fees exist at a few providers that bundle an app, coaching or a dietitian. The fee is separate from the pen price and often monthly.

Who this affects

The rules on what pharmacies may include and charge are the same across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 give you 14 days to cancel a contract made online, and regulation 34 requires a refund within 14 days of the trader being told. A charge that first appears after you have paid is one to query with the pharmacy and, if unresolved, with Citizens Advice.

Questions to ask before you pay

  1. Is the price shown the total for one four-week supply, including the consultation and delivery?
  2. Is this a first order price or the ongoing price, and what is the ongoing price at this dose?
  3. Does the price change when my prescriber moves me to the next dose, and is there a fee for the dose review?
  4. Is standard delivery tracked and temperature controlled for pens, and what does express delivery cost?
  5. Is a sharps bin included, how much is a replacement, and how do I return a full one?
  6. Is a blood test required, who pays for it, and will you accept a recent GP result?
  7. Are follow-up calls or messages charged?
  8. What is the cancellation process inside the 14-day cooling off period and after it?

Mistakes that cost money

Choosing a pharmacy on the pen price alone and then paying for express delivery every month because standard delivery takes four days. Buying a sharps bin from the pharmacy at a mark-up when a local council or GP practice supplies one. Paying for a private blood test the pharmacy would have waived against a GP result. Assuming a first order price of £88.00 continues, when the ongoing price at the same pharmacy may be higher. The first order and ongoing price guide sets out the gap at every dose, and the switching pharmacy guide shows what moving saves.

The Dose Club does not advise 3, 6 or 12 month tie-in plans, because the prices are higher and most of the benefit sits with the pharmacy. See subscription against pay monthly.

Where the figures come from

Prices are from the GLP Index export of 21 October 2026. Pack contents are from the Mounjaro and Wegovy patient information leaflets on emc. The consultation requirement is from GOV.UK's guidance on GLP-1 medicines. The cancellation and refund rules are from Part 3 of the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. The add-ons listed are those seen across pharmacy websites in the index and vary by pharmacy, so none is priced here.

Questions people ask

Is the consultation included in the Mounjaro price?

Yes in every figure on this site. GLP Index records the total a patient pays for a four-week pen including the prescriber assessment and standard delivery. On 21 October 2026 that total ran from £105.00 to £229.00 for an ongoing Mounjaro 2.5 mg pen across 80 pharmacies. A pharmacy that lists a pen price and then adds a consultation fee at checkout is quoting a lower headline than it charges.

Do I need to buy needles separately?

Not for Wegovy. The patient leaflet lists one pen and four NovoFine Plus needles in each pack. The Mounjaro KwikPen leaflet lists pack sizes of 1 and 3 pens and does not mention needles, so ask the pharmacy whether it supplies them and at what cost. The Wegovy pill and Foundayo are tablets and need none.

Do pharmacies charge for a sharps bin?

Many do, and some include one with the first order only. A sharps bin is needed for used pen needles and is not part of the pen pack. Ask whether one is included, what a replacement costs and how collection or return works. Tablets produce no sharps.

Why did my second month cost more than the advertised price?

The advertised price was most likely the first order price. On 21 October 2026 the median Mounjaro 2.5 mg first order was £133.99 and the median ongoing price was £153.21. The ongoing price applies from the second pen. The first order and ongoing price guide works through every dose.

Are blood tests part of the price?

Not in the index figures. Some pharmacies ask for a recent blood test before prescribing or at a dose step and charge for it, while others accept results from your GP. Ask whether a test is required, whether the pharmacy charges for it and whether an existing result is accepted.
