Four subscriptions and what they charge

Vitamin subscription companies post a supply to you on a fixed cycle and take payment each time. Some bill every calendar month and some every 28 days. The difference matters over a year, because a 28-day cycle means 13 payments.

Vitl lists free UK delivery for subscriptions. Nourished delivers subscriptions free and charges £2.99 postage on a one-time order. Heights lists free UK shipping. The vitamin D content differs between products: 25 micrograms in a Vitl softgel, 300 IU (7.5 micrograms) in a Nourished stack and 45 micrograms in a two-capsule Heights serving.

The same nutrients from a shop

Retail packs are bought once, with no renewal. For vitamin D at 25 micrograms, Asda sold Vitabiotics Vitamin D 1000 IU at £4.95 for 96 tablets on 22 October 2026. For a daily multivitamin with 10 micrograms of vitamin D, Tesco sold Tesco A-Z Multivitamin Tablets and Minerals at £4.95 for 90.

A personalised pack or a multi-ingredient stack has no exact shop equivalent. The figures below compare the cost of each option over 12 months, not the contents.

Yearly comparison

OptionHow you pay12 months
Nourished Essentials, one-time orders£40.98 each with postage, 13 orders£532.74

Vitl Vitamin D3, one-off tins£5.95 a tin, 12 tins£71.40 plus any delivery charge
Vitl Vitamin D3, subscription£5.45 a month, 12 payments£65.40
Tesco A-Z Multivitamin, one-off£4.95 for 90, 4 packs for 360 days£19.80
Vitabiotics Vitamin D 1000 IU at Asda, one-off£4.95 for 96, 4 packs for 384 days£19.80

Where a company shows a one-off price, its subscription costs less. The Heights plan saves £84.00 a year against single bottles. The Vitl vitamin D subscription saves £6.00 a year against single tins, before delivery. Nourished one-time buyers pay £38.87 a year more in postage alone.

Against a shop, the gap is larger. The Vitl vitamin D subscription costs £45.60 a year more than four packs of the Asda tablets with the same strength. Vitl's product page shows free UK delivery only on orders over £20, so a single £5.95 tin may carry a delivery charge the page does not state.

Your right to cancel an online order

Orders placed online or by phone fall under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. For a contract with regular deliveries of goods, regulation 30(6) ends the cancellation period 14 days after the day the first delivery comes into your physical possession. Later deliveries do not restart the clock.

GOV.UK tells businesses they must explain the right to cancel. If they do not, you can cancel at any time within 12 months. Before you order online, the seller must also state any minimum contract length and the conditions for ending a rolling contract.

Regulation 28(3)(a) removes the right for sealed goods which are not suitable for return due to health protection or hygiene reasons, once they become unsealed after delivery. Keep the first box sealed until you have decided.

Once you cancel, regulation 35 gives you 14 days from telling the trader to send the goods back, and you bear the direct cost of returning them unless the trader agreed to pay or failed to tell you. Regulation 34 requires a refund within 14 days of the trader receiving the goods, or evidence you sent them. The refund includes the standard delivery charge you paid on the order.

A separate set of subscription rules under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 has not started. The government's response of 2 April 2026 says it expects the regime to commence in spring 2027. Its 2024 announcement described reminder notices, a 14-day cooling-off period after a trial or long-term subscription renews, and an exit as easy as signing up.

Each company's own terms

Vitl says you can pause or cancel at any time. Its terms describe cancelling from the subscriptions section of your vitl.com account. They also say its refund policy applies only to the most recent order, with earlier orders refunded at Vitl's discretion.

Nourished renews every 28 days until you cancel. Changes or cancellations must reach it at least 24 hours before the next order is processed, by email to customerlove@get-nourished.com or through your online account. Later changes apply to the following order.

Heights says you can cancel or change a subscription at any time, using the links in your order confirmation emails. Its policy notes some subscriptions may auto-renew at the end of their duration. The Vitals+ page offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Before you sign up

  1. List what one daily dose contains, from the product page.
  2. Price the same nutrients as an own-brand pack from a supermarket or pharmacy.
  3. Multiply the subscription price by 13 for a 28-day cycle or by 12 for a monthly one.
  4. Note the cancellation cut-off. For Nourished it is 24 hours before the next order is processed.
  5. Leave the first delivery sealed until you are sure you want to keep it.
  6. Set a calendar reminder two days before each payment date.

Mistakes that cost money

Treating a 28-day plan as monthly. Twelve payments of £39.95 come to £479.40, but the Vitl Personalised Pack takes 13 a year, which is £519.35.

Opening the first box straight away. An unsealed hygiene-sealed product can lose the 14-day right to cancel.

Buying single orders from a subscription site. Nourished adds £2.99 postage to each one-time order.

Missing the cut-off. Nourished applies a change sent less than 24 hours before processing to the following order, so the next box is still charged at £37.99.

Where the figures come from

Vitl prices, delivery terms and cancellation steps are from the Vitl home page, the vitamin D and Personalised Pack product pages and the Vitl terms of service. Nourished prices, the 28-day cycle, postage and the 24-hour cut-off are from the Nourished Essentials page. Heights prices, servings and the money-back guarantee are from the Vitals+ page, and its cancellation terms from the Heights subscription policy. Shop prices are from the Asda and Tesco product pages. Cancellation rights are from regulations 28, 30, 34 and 35 of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 on legislation.gov.uk and from the GOV.UK online and distance selling pages. The spring 2027 date is from the government response on GOV.UK, and the planned protections from the GOV.UK announcement of 18 November 2024. Every page was read on 22 October 2026.
